Q: The Tricolor light comes on, but the anchor light does not. What’s wrong?

A: You may have the photodiode option with the light. This sensor will prevent the anchor portion of the TriAnchor from coming on during daylight hours. Try testing at night. This sensor is sensitive to infrared light, so make sure there aren’t any bonfires nearby when you are testing!


Q: Can I wire the OGM TriAnchor to my existing circuit breaker panel?

A: Yes, IF you do not need the strobe functionality of the light. To wire the TriAnchor to your existing Anchor and Tricolor circuit breakers, you will need to use all three wires from the light. Follow the wiring diagram below. Connect the black wire (formerly the shield wire on previous versions without a connector) to the negative or electrical ground of your boat’s electrical system. Connect the brown wire (formerly the black wire on previous versions without connector) to the Anchor circuit breaker. Finally, connect the blue wire (formerly the red wire on previous versions without the connector) to the Tricolor circuit breaker.

NOTE: The circuit breaker should not be rated for more than 5 Amps. The LED light draws less than 1 Amp. If the breaker is rated too high, there is a greater danger of fire or catastrophic damage to the light and wiring if there is a failure. OGM is not responsible for damage from incorrectly installed lights.


Q: Can I wire the TriAnchor with strobe option to my anchor, tricolor, and strobe circuit breakers?

A: No. You will need to purchase our selector switch.

Q: How do I know if I have a photodiode model?

A: The photodiode is a small black electronic device that is mounted on the edge of the green circuit board in the stern section of the light. If you see this small black square mounted on the board near the lens, then you have a photodiode version.

Q: What section of the TriAnchor is the stern?

A: The stern section of the TriAnchor light is the only one of the three sections in the light which has a single LED in it. This section is also slightly wider than the other two port and starboard sections. The stern section should of course face aft on the boat when mounted.

Q: How do I know if I have a strobe model?

A: The model type of the light is written on the green circuit board in the stern section of the light. It will be either marked with nothing, ‘P’, ‘S’, or ‘SP’. If it is marked with ‘S’ or ‘SP’, then you have a strobe model. If it is marked ‘P’, or ‘SP’, then you have a photodiode or photodiode-strobe model.

Q: What kind of wiring do I need in the mast?

A: The minimum wire size needed for the TriAnchor light is AWG gauge #22 or larger. (Smaller AWG numbers are larger wire sizes). However, ABYC guidelines for boat wiring recommend a minimum of 16 gauge for navigation lighting.

Q: Do I need one of your mounting brackets?

A: In almost all cases, the answer is yes. Unless you build your own custom bracket. OGM LED lights are factory sealed to prevent moisture getting to the internal electronics and therefore cannot be opened. The light must be mounted by screwing #6-32 screws into the bottom base from underneath. This requires the use of a bracket. OGM stainless-steel brackets work well and the hole patterns match the light.

Q: Why is the lens clear and not colored?

A: An LED can produce pure color light. We use a pure red LED for the port light, and a pure green (cyan) LED for the starboard light, and a white LED for the stern section. Therefore a colored lens is not needed. Also, the LED itself has a built in lens for directing the light. Therefore an external fresnel lens is not needed.

Q: How long will an LED last?

A: This depends on the type of LED, its quality, and light construction itself. OGM uses the highest quality LEDs available on the market. We then use special construction techniques to mount the LEDS so that their heat generated is efficiently drawn away from the LED into the housing and outside to the environment. This maximizes the life. OGM LEDs are rated for 50,000 hours of operation during which time full brightness of the LED is maintained. After 50,000 hours, a gradual dimming of the LED may occur.

Q: What are the dimensions of the TriAnchor light?

A: The TriAnchor is 2.75 inches tall, and 2.75 inches in diameter.

Q: What is the weight of the TriAnchor?

A: The TriAnchor weighs 11 ounces.

Q: I have an Anchor light now. Can I replace it with an OGM TriAnchor light without changing the mast wiring?

A: Yes! The TriAnchor light uses an innovative circuit to allow operation of both the Tricolor and Anchor modes of the light using just 2 wires. See the wiring FAQ above for details on this wiring.

Q: Are OGM LED navigation lights US Coast Guard Approved.

A: Yes! Our navigation lights are tested by an independent USCG approved testing laboratory. The lights are engraved with the USCG specification that it meets. For example, our 2 Nautical Mile visible lights are marked with USCG 2NM.
